Tech giant Meta has announced the rollout of its artificial intelligence (AI) assistant, Meta AI, in India across WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and meta.ai. Built with the latest ‘Llama 3’ large language model (LLM), Meta AI is designed to enhance user experience by integrating AI capabilities directly within these platforms.
Users in India can now employ Meta AI to assist with various tasks, generate content, and explore topics without leaving their current app. “It’s starting to roll out in India in English. You can use Meta AI on WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram to get things done, learn, create and connect with the things that matter to you”, Meta stated.
The company initially unveiled Meta AI at its ‘Connect’ event last year. Now, millions of Indian users can leverage this AI in their daily interactions on Meta's suite of apps. For instance, users can ask Meta AI in a WhatsApp group chat to suggest restaurants with great views and vegan options, or inquire on Messenger about the best times to view the northern lights in Iceland.
Meta AI also enhances browsing experiences on Facebook. When scrolling through the Facebook Feed, users encountering a post of interest can ask Meta AI for more information directly from the post. For example, upon seeing a photo of the aurora borealis, users can query Meta AI about the best time of year to witness the phenomenon.
Additionally, Meta AI can help students by generating study aids, such as multiple-choice tests, directly through the web. This feature aims to support users in educational endeavors, making learning more interactive and accessible.
Meta’s introduction of Meta AI in India marks a significant step in making AI tools widely accessible, promoting a seamless blend of AI assistance in everyday digital interactions.
