Meity Proposes Rs 10,000 Crores AI Program for Cabinet Approval
The India AI program, an ambitious initiative by the Ministry of Electronics and IT, is set to undergo cabinet approval. This program entails the establishment of GPU-based servers through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, with a budget exceeding Rs 10,000 crore, as stated by Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar. While speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration of the US-based Synopsys chip design centre in Noida, Chandrasekhar said, “India AI programme is worth over Rs 10,000 crore. It (the proposal) will be taken with the cabinet for approval".
He clarified that the India AI program will operate in PPP mode, wherein computational infrastructure capacity will be developed in both private data centers and those managed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC). Additionally, the minister inaugurated Synopsys' semiconductor chip design center at DLF Tech Park in Noida. This facility, the company's second-largest design center in India, is anticipated to engage 6,000 Indian engineers, comprising 27 percent of its worldwide design workforce.
Speaking at the centre, Chandrasekhar said partnerships with companies like Synopsys are the building blocks of India’s ambitions in semiconductors. “The rapid pace and velocity of innovation facilitated by companies like Synopsys are, in many ways, propelling the overall innovation of our tech and digital ecosystem. Therefore, I firmly believe that companies like Synopsys will become a significant player in shaping the future of technology", he explained.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to building capabilities and aiming to lead in chips, devices, and product architecture. “The government is concentrating on building capabilities aiming to be at the forefront in terms of designing chips, devices, and products", he added.
