Meet Anmol Tukrel, a 16 yr Old Boy Who Challenged Google's Search Engine

BENGALURU: Anmol Tukrel, a 16 year old Indian-origin Canadian is challenging Google with his personalized search engine, which he claims to be 47pct more accurate than Google’s and 21 pct more on an average, reports Tech2.

Anmol designed a personalized search engine as part of a project to the Google Science Fair, a global online open competition to students who are 13-18 years old.

Anmol says he took nearly 60 hours to design this project.  “I have always known that I would do something in personalized search space and thought to push his limits and design something new and better than Google,” he said, in a conversation with The Times of India.

To make this project the developmental kit he worked with included a computer with at least 1GB of free storage space, a python-based development environment, a spreadsheet program and access to Google and New York Times as he limited his search to only this year articles from New York Times.

Anmol suggests the reason that his search engine is better than Google’s is that his search engine takes location, browsing history which Google also has. The two other things the search is more accurate is because it considers and tries to understand the context and meaning of the queries.

He was reportedly in India recently for a two-week internship program at Bengaluru based adtech firm.
