MediaTek Unveils Dimensity 9400 Chip for Next-Gen AI and Gaming
The China-based MediaTek has finally announced its latest flagship smartphone chipset in the name of Dimensity 9400. The fresh chipset is said to be hoping to take AI applications, immersive gaming, and advanced photography experiences to a new level. The chipset was announced on Wednesday and is optimized for edge-AI applications, which is set to power the next generation of smartphones starting in Q4.
The Dimensity 9400 is the fourth generation in MediaTek's flagship SoC lineup and comes with a second generation 'All Big Core' design built atop Arm's v9.2 CPU architecture. It uses cutting-edge GPU and NPU designs to deliver extreme performance with best-in-class power efficiency. The chip is built atop TSMC's second-generation 3nm process, thus making it 40 percent more power-efficient compared to the predecessor Dimensity 9300.
MediaTek President Joe Chen said the new chip supports complex AI applications including anticipating the needs of users and powering generative AI technology using on-device LoRA training and video generation. "The Dimensity 9400 continues our mission of enabling AI, providing powerful applications while delivering flagship performance in an energy-efficient design", he said.
The Dimensity 9400 promises a 35 percent jump in single-core performance and 28 percent in multi-core performance, coupled with up to 80 percent faster large language model (LLM) prompt performance, with 35 percent more power efficiency than the previous generation.
Media Tek reported that the company is working with developers to converge a singular interface between AI agents, third-party apps and models to ensure a harmonious integration between edge AI and cloud services.
With MediaTek's increasing market share, Dimensity 9400 will set new levels of achievement for smartphone performance, battery efficiency, and AI-driven applications, providing users with the sharpest and latest experiences.
