MediaTek Gains Traction as Indian EV Makers Embrace AI-Powered HPC Solutions
  • MediaTek eyes deeper entry into India’s EV market, banking on local AI talent and OEM readiness for high-performance computing in vehicles.
  • The company highlights rising demand for AI-powered infotainment systems, especially in electric two-wheelers and premium EVs.
  • Focus areas include AI adoption, scalable SoCs, and power-efficient solutions tailored for India’s growing electric mobility ecosystem.

Massive pool of AI talent and electric vehicle manufacturers' willingness to embrace artificial intelligence and high-performance computing provide a huge opportunity in India for MediaTek, a top company official said.

MediaTek Director of Product Marketing Automotive Platform Rita Wu informed PTI that the semiconductor firm is eyeing deeper penetration in India's automotive market with a strategic emphasis on AI, scalable system-on-chips (SoCs), and cutting-edge connectivity solutions.

"I believe there is a lot of talent in AI in the Indian market. The second aspect is OEMs' mindset. They are interested in AI and interested in attempting to cope with the offloads in their cars. Not only AI, but also strong computing to accommodate more high-end solutions. That's very important and very good for India market", Wu said.

Wu delineated three significant industry transitions guiding their roadmap agentic AI adoption, growing demand for high-performance compute ability (CPU, GPU, NPU), and power efficiency improvements specifically customized for electric vehicles (EVs).

She added that energy efficiency technology demand will be strong in EVs as power is extremely important for the segment. From producing chips for mobile phones, MediaTek has expanded offerings to technology for the auto industry, to satellite communications.

MediaTek Automotive Platform Director of Europe Product Marketing Sharique Khan expressed that even electric two-wheeler producers in India have begun utilizing the firm's AI-powered chips for infotainment systems. "We see that in the next three to four years, there will be adoption of AI and high computing, depending on the cost segment in India, from premium and scale down to the entry segment", Khan said.

He said the rising demand for AI-powered cockpit infotainment across segments in India is one of the key aspects that makes it strategically important for MediaTek. When questioned about volumes for semiconductors, Khan replied volumes generally begin with premium segments and then trickle down. Customized solutions will also play a critical role in the Indian EV market, he added.
