Mastercard Unveiled its Next-Generation Tech Hub in Pune

Mastercard just unveiled its brand-new, next-generation Tech Hub in Pune, India, designed to drive growth in India and advance Mastercard's global technology capabilities. The facility, covering nearly half a million square meters, forms part of Mastercard's far-reaching Tech Hub network, which now includes sites at Arlington, Dublin, New York, St. Louis, Sydney, and Vancouver.

Sited in Bluegrass Business Park, Yerwada, Pune, the Tech Hub will house more than 6,000 professionals, including technologists, engineers, and specialists in different disciplines, including software development, data architecture, finance, and cyber security. It's the largest single-city workforce concentration Mastercard has globally.

With over 40 years of presence in India, Mastercard is established at the heart of a robust payments ecosystem that enhances commerce in the nation, makes it safer, smarter, and more inclusive. Since launching its first Tech Hub in Pune in 2014, the company has significantly increased its local workforce, thereby cementing its commitment to the Indian economy. The Pune facility focuses on improving payment safety, cybersecurity, fraud prevention, and digital identity across operations worldwide.

Ed McLaughlin, President & Chief Technology Officer, Mastercard said "This Tech Hub will be the spearhead to drive Mastercard's technology agenda around the world. Because it will be one of our anchor locations globally, it will partner with other hubs around the globe in co-creating technologies that are going to impact economic growth and everyday life. This reflects the commitment towards enabling India and shaping its enormous talent pool.".

The opening of the Tech Hub aligns with the 'Viksit Bharat' initiative of the Indian government, which envisions India to develop and transform as a completely developed, technologically advanced economy by 2047. The Pune team has already contributed to some critical projects, such as the financial inclusion project through the Community Pass platform, the pilot launch of the Payment Passkey Service that integrates biometrics, and as an accredited Authentication Service Agency for services based on Aadhaar.

India is strategically important for us and we are committed to investing in technologies that can make it a thriving digital economy across the continent. The opening of our Pune Tech Hub is a significant milestone in our growth strategy and further support for the government's digitization efforts", Gautam Aggarwal, Division President, South Asia, Mastercard said.

This new facility has been designed to meet complex technological issues with sound reliability to critical payment infrastructures. It focuses on collaboration between Mastercard's global teams and the vibrant Indian tech ecosystem.
