Malware Attention! Lenovo Laptop or PC Users


BANGALORE: Are you a Lenovo PC or laptop user? Have you observed your computer installing files that are unknown to you? Do you think your system is affected in any way?

If your answer to all these questions is yes, then the laptop or PC is instilled with unwanted software that may prove fatal, reports NDTV.

After much criticism, Lenovo finally broke silence on the matter- unauthorized installation of certain programs in large number of Lenovo computers. The company was using a "rootkit-like" technique to install certain programs forcefully on a large number of its Windows laptops and PCs.

In addition to all this unwanted software slump there is this vulnerability discovered which if exploited can let attackers/hackers/fraudsters to gain admin level access to your computer.

So finally Lenovo has taken a step to put a stop to these ‘surreptitious’ activities by providing the users with latest BIOS firmware update to download which will end the "unwanted software" from going further.

Moreover the installation of the new BIOS firmware update and complete swipe of Windows computer the unwanted software is reinstalled again. Which fails the attempt of the BIOS update and what’s more to know is that the problem with the unwanted software is linked to the way Lenovo used a Microsoft Windows mechanism in a feature found in its BIOS firmware called Lenovo Service Engine (LSE). This flaw is studied by Microsoft and Lenovo to discover the possible ways an attacker can gain access by implementing on a Lenovo Notebook, including a buffer overflow attack and an attempted connection to a Lenovo test server.

This is not the first time for Lenovo, attempting to install unwanted software on customers computers. Earlier in February, Lenovo was found shipping its Windows powered products with an adware pre-installed called Superfish.
