Maersk Unveils Cutting-Edge Logistics Tech at 'Code Cargo 2025'
  • Maersk showcased Star Connect, its AI-powered fleet energy efficiency platform, at Code Cargo 2025 in Bengaluru, using edge computing to optimize fuel, safety, and emissions.
  • India emerges as the digital backbone of Maersk’s global operations, with 2,900 tech experts across Bengaluru, Pune, Mumbai, and Chennai driving AI, data science, and platform engineering.
  • Maersk’s strong logistics presence in India spans 15 ports, 26 warehouses, and 7,000 weekly rail moves, aligning with India’s vision to become a global manufacturing and export hub.

Maersk, an integrated logistics provider, had its global technology leaders, engineers, and industry constituents come together at its primary technology demonstration facility, Code Cargo 2025, in Bengaluru. The function provided a strong illustration of how Maersk is changing the global logistics landscape with cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, data science, and platform engineering, for which India is taking a central position.

One of the major innovations featured at Code Cargo was Star Connect, Maersk's artificial intelligence-powered fleet energy efficiency platform. Developed on the basis of edge computing, Star Connect analyzes more than 2.5 billion IoT data points in real time to facilitate wiser, on-the-fly decision-making during sea voyages. By using machine learning models at the edge, the platform predicts fuel usage, cargo wind resistance, and hazards such as parametric roll, enabling operators to make measured course and speed corrections within minutes. It enhances operational safety, optimizes fuel efficiency, and plays an important role in tracking emissions and supporting Maersk's long-term decarbonization strategy.

"India is not merely a growth market for Maersk; it is a crucial component of the brain and backbone of our global digital overhaul. So many of the innovations and technologies defining the future of global trade are being written in India. Our Bengaluru-based Technology Centre, in fact, has a crucial role to play in developing the platforms, the algorithms, and the customer experiences that drive supply chains in 130 countries where we have operations", stated Navneet Kapoor, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology & Information Officer, A.P. Moller, Maersk.

Maersk has more than 20,000 Indian employees, the largest number of any nationality in the company. They have around 2,900 technology experts located across the Maersk offices in Bengaluru, Pune, Mumbai, and Chennai. The Technology Centre, with headquarters in Bengaluru, is the hub of innovation, providing digital capabilities in software development, architecture, cybersecurity, data science, and AI, obtaining more than 10+ Artificial Intelligence patents, and introducing platforms to provide real-time cargo visibility and decision-making for customers worldwide.

From AI-driven solutions to enterprise architecture, our Indian teams are defining the digital bedrock of our business", stated Resham Sahi, Senior Vice President Technology, and Maersk Technology Centre, Bengaluru Head. Nearly half our global tech talent is located in India. And we are proud that some of our most sophisticated solutions, whether real-time visibility, smart warehousing, or customer automation, are being imagined, created, and grown out of India.

Maersk's strong networked integrated logistics in India facilitates world trade in and out of India. The company has operations in 15 ports, 26 warehouses spanning more than 350,000 square metres, and extends to more than 80 percent of India's pin codes via its distribution network. Maersk moves almost 1 million containers every year in and out of the country, making over 7,000 rail moves weekly. The company also has customs houses in 55 places and offers air freight facilities from 10 airports. With a robust on-ground footprint, Maersk is striving to lower Indian businesses' logistics costs and drive the nation's vision of becoming a world manufacturing and export hub.

With Code Cargo 2025, Maersk has again emphasized that the future of international trade will not merely be shipped, but coded, engineered, and optimized by India's tech talent.
