Karnataka Launches AI Workforce Impact Study Ahead of IT Policy 2025
  • Karnataka launches state-wide AI Workforce Impact Survey to shape future IT policy and guide NIPUNA Karnataka skilling roadmap.
  • With over 1 lakh AI professionals, the state aims to balance rapid tech growth with inclusive, future-ready workforce development.
  • Survey seeks industry feedback to assess job disruption, automation risk, and AI adoption trends; deadline: June 27, 2025.

The Karnataka government has initiated an exhaustive study to gauge the effect of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the state's labor force. This study, undertaken by the Department of Electronics, IT and Biotechnology, Government of Karnataka, will guide the future IT policy 2025 and influence strategic interventions under the Government flagship skilling program NIPUNA Karnataka.

Karnataka remains at the forefront of India's technology trajectory with Bengaluru recently ranked #5 in AI and Big Data ecosystems worldwide and having more than 1 lakh AI professionals. The state is putting a big push towards evidence-based policymaking to deliver inclusive, future-proof growth.

"Our technology workforce has surpassed 1 million professionals and Bengaluru has become the undisputed AI capital of India. But while AI is transforming industries at lightning speed, we need to make sure our people are not left behind", stated Priyank Kharge, Minister for IT, BT and RDPR, in a state government statement.

"This research is an important step to enable us to navigate the changing nature of work, inform intelligent skilling investments under our reskilling initiative NIPUNA Karnataka and protect our most prized asset our talent. I request all industry captains to provide their views", the minister stated.

The AI Workforce Impact Survey calls for feedback from industry leaders, HR heads, technology practitioners and academics.

The survey, among other aspects, seeks to comprehend how AI is being adopted into the operations of organizations on a day-to-day basis, which areas of business are experiencing the most significant shifts as a result of increased access to AI tools and whose jobs are most at risk of being automated.

These findings will be invaluable in determining skill gaps, new job opportunities and the character of workforce disruptions in industries and will inform the Government to develop functional, future-oriented policies that foster innovation as well as workforce resilience. The survey will close on June 27, 2025 and responses will be kept anonymous and confidential.
