Indus Appstore Introduces Voice Search in Local Languages
PhonePe-owned Indus Appstore has introduced a voice search feature in ten Indian languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali, Gujarati, and Urdu. This addition aims to expand the app store's user base and adoption, reaching 75% of local language speakers among Indian internet users.
Akash Dongre, Co-Founder and CPO of Indus Appstore, revealed that the company is working on speech-to-text algorithms in two additional Indian languages, aiming to cater to 95% of native Indian language speakers. The voice search feature leverages artificial intelligence and machine learning to ensure accurate results and an understanding of various accents and speech patterns.
This new feature offers significant benefits for app developers by boosting app installations. Users can access voice search by tapping the voice search button, which simplifies the process compared to traditional text-based searches that require specialized keyboards and complex character compositions.
Dongre highlighted that traditional text-based searches in regional languages pose challenges that hinder the user experience. The voice search feature addresses these hurdles and enhances accessibility for users across different age groups, from six to sixty, by integrating Indian languages.
Indus Appstore is an Android-based mobile app store available in 12 languages for users and developers, competing with Google’s Play Store in India. The voice search feature is part of the app store's effort to create an inclusive and accessible platform.
By positioning itself at the forefront of transformative voice technology, Indus Appstore aims to drive growth and engagement in India's tech landscape. The company believes this development is crucial for the evolving needs of Indian users and aligns with the broader trend of increasing reliance on voice-activated technology in the country.
