Indian Oil inaugurates EV battery swapping station in Kolkata
The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has inaugurated its inaugural battery-swapping station for electric vehicles (EVs) in Kolkata. The state-owned oil marketing company established this facility at its retail outlet in New Town, situated on the eastern outskirts of the city, through a collaboration with Sun Mobility. According to a statement from the company, this development signifies a noteworthy advancement in the promotion of sustainable and easily accessible electric mobility solutions throughout the city.
Battery-swapping technology for two and three-wheeler EVs has proven to be a game-changer across India. IOC director (marketing) V Satish Kumar said, "The battery-swapping technology presents a significant opportunity for promoting sustainable electric mobility solutions. This facility is expected to play a pivotal role in the adoption of EVs and spearhead energy transition in eastern India".
In the upcoming months, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), in collaboration with Sun Mobility, plans to deploy additional battery-swapping stations at its retail outlets. This initiative aims to offer drivers a convenient and efficient solution, allowing them to swiftly exchange depleted batteries for fully charged ones. This not only ensures faster turnaround times but also enhances the overall convenience of electric vehicles (EVs) for users. Anant Badjatya, the CEO of Sun Mobility, emphasized that this state-of-the-art technology is poised to drive mobility into the future and play a crucial role in eliminating barriers for EV users.
