OpenAI Chief Strategy Officer Jason Kwon while applauding India's vision on artificial intelligence, referred to it as one of the few nations exhibiting the scale and ambition necessary to lead in the AI age.
Addressing the launch of the OpenAI Academy in India, Kwon stated that the collaboration between OpenAI and the Indian government is designed to scale up AI education and skilling to enable India's rile in the international AI landscape.
"India is emerging as a global AI powerhouse", Kwon stated, as he also noted that the nation boasts the second-largest number of ChatGPT users as well as a robust developer community.
The OpenAI Academy, launched in collaboration with IndiaAI, an initiative under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) will aim to equip students, civil servants, non-profit leaders, and developers with new AI knowledge.
“In the brief time I’ve spent in India, it’s clear that the country’s leadership understands that maximising AI’s benefits requires significant investments in two areas: core infrastructure and cultivated data”, Kwon said.
OpenAI CEO also expressed appreciation for the support he received from Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, conveyed through a video message in the event, and praised the collaborative approach manifested by the MeitY officials.
Kwon further stated that AI professionals will be in increasing demand exponentially, and OpenAI Academy will fill the skills gap by making education in AI more accessible. "We want to make AI learning faster, share knowledge and how to use the most recent AI tools so Indians can remain at the forefront", he added.
The opening of the OpenAI Academy comes after Kwon's multi-nation tour visiting policymakers around the world to discuss regulating and deploying AI. "By enabling individuals to utilize frontier intelligence, India can speed up development and find scientific milestones", he explained.
