India Rises as a Global Technology Powerhouse

India is quickly becoming a central player in global technology innovation, say global experts who congregated at the recently held Global Technology Summit. The gathering, attended by leading policymakers, industry players, and global think tanks, highlighted India's emerging role in defining the digital future through innovation, strategic collaborations, and strong Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI).

Brendan Dowling, Australia's Cyber Affairs and Critical Technology Ambassador, described the summit as a 'sideshow' that successfully blends the fields of geopolitics and technology. "This summit, I believe, is now a really prominent global event. It is bringing together policymakers and industry think tanks to discuss geopolitics and technology", Dowling stated. He also highlighted the pivotal role of technology in advancing global safety, security, and prosperity. Dowling further praised India’s skilled ICT workforce and globally competitive software industry, calling India a key player in the global tech ecosystem.

Dowling also underscored the enormous potential for an enhanced Australia-India bilateral relationship in emerging and critical technologies. In his view, both countries have complementary capabilities to offer India with its innovation-driven technology sector and Australia with its strong expertise in cybersecurity and critical infrastructure. Together, they can lead the way in developing areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and cybersecurity frameworks.

Building on this view, Jon Simonsson, Senior Director at the Swedish Prime Minister's Office, highlighted the importance of international cooperation in driving technological innovation. He pointed out that global issues, including climate change and digital governance, need multilateral solutions based on cross-border technological cooperation.

Experts at the summit also referred to India's leadership in creating and exporting its Digital Public Infrastructure model, such as Aadhaar, UPI, and CoWIN. These systems not only revolutionized India's governance and financial ecosystems but are now being emulated and learned by other countries as blueprints for inclusive, scalable technology solutions.

As the world digital landscape keeps changing, India's dedication to innovation, open innovation, and digital democracy makes it a key player in the future of global technology development.
