India Leads the Bugs Bounty Program of Facebook
BENGALURU: India ranks at the top on Facebook’s bug bounty program with the highest number of participating security researchers. The paid bounties stand at 4.8 crores since the program started by Facebook, reported by Gadgets 360 Statt.
India, for very long has topped the list of 127 countries whose researchers have also contributed to the bugs bounty program. The country also receives the most bounties paid. This Facebook program pays out bounties based on the risk of bugs rather than the complexity or cleverness involved for detecting the bug. Such terms of detections implies that a person can maximize the value of the report on high impact areas and submitting a good quality report. It was only earlier this month that Facebook awarded $ 15,000 (that is roughly 10 lakhs) to Anand Prakash, a 22 year old security researcher at Flipkart.
The Bugs Bounty program was launched in 2011, which lets the white hat hackers report vulnerability in Facebook and its acquired companies and products such as Instagram, Free Basics, and Onavo. This curriculum has received over 2,400 valid submissions and has awarded more than $4.3 Mn to over 800 researchers around the world.
In the year 2015, Facebook received a total of 13,233 submissions from 5,543researchers in 127 countries and paid out $936,000 to 210 researchers who have submitted a total of 526 valid reports. Apart from India, there are Egypt, Trinidad, and Tobago who has received the highest number of payouts with the average payout of $1.780.
