iPhone 6 And 6 Plus Creates Record, Sold Over 10 Million In the First Weekend

BANGALORE: Apple revealed that it has sold over 10 million iPhone 6 and 6 Plus models, a record for a new model, in the three days after the phones went on sale.

A year ago, Apple Inc said it had sold 9 million of the then-new iPhone 5C and 5S models.

The iPhone is available in the U.S., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK. It will go on sale in 20 more countries on Sept 26 and others by the end of the year.

CEO Tim Cook says demand for the phones has exceeded the company’s expectations.

Besides larger screens, the new phones offer faster performance and a wireless chip for making credit card payments.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available to customers in India from October 17, less than a month from its global launch.

The iPhone 6 is priced at $199 (16GB), $299 (64GB) and $399 (128GB) with a two-year contract. The iPhone 6 Plus will be available for $299 (16GB), $399 (64GB) and $499 (128GB) with a two-year contract in the U.S.

"iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are better in every way, and we are thrilled customers love them as much as we do. Pre-orders for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus set a new record for Apple, and we can’t wait to get our best iPhones yet into the hands of customers soon," Apple CEO Tim Cook said.

“We would like to thank all of our customers for making this our best launch ever, shattering all previous sell-through records by a large margin. While our team managed the manufacturing ramp better than ever before, we could have sold many more iPhones with greater supply and we are working hard to fill orders as quickly as possible,” added Cook.
