Hyderabad To Be The 1st Indian City To Offer Google Street View
BANGALORE: A recent announcement by Telangana IT Minister K T Rama Rao confirmed the news that Hyderabad is the first city in India to receive the Google Street View.
The Minister led a delegation to meet Director of Product Management Manik Gupta and Narayana Tummala, Ground Truth Engineering Lead of Google Street View team.
Although, Street View has a prominent appearance overseas and is extensively utilized in U.S., Canada and several European countries; their application has been limited in India until lately, reports NDTV.
Google hasn’t provided street-level views to Indian cities, but still has managed to roll out its Street View for several of its tourist sites that are in partnership with the Archaeological Society of India, this includes Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar.
"Google is in talks with the Minister of Home Affairs to get permissions for conducting the Street View exercise at a city-wide level. This permission is expected to be given shortly." said Rama Rao in a statement in Hyderabad.
"Upon the request made by the Minister, Google has agreed to make Telangana the first state which will get Street View for one complete city, namely, Hyderabad to begin with, with subsequent extension to other major cities and towns," he added.
According to one of the statement, Google is also in agreement to fulfill specific requests made by the minister. Among these requisites, employing Street View for monitoring divergence from official building plans, tracking industrial land bank situated in various parts of the state and property tax collection.
Past attempts have been made by Google to introduce Street View in India but ran into a regulatory stumbling block. This incident gave room for many like WoNoBo who immediately stepped in to bridge the gap.
