Google's New Feature: Order Food Directly From Search Results

BANGALORE: Google’s algorithms are designed to make searching for anything on the internet easier, whether it’s phone numbers or movie tickets. But the company has gone one step further recently by making it possible to order food online.

All you have to do is search for a restaurant or hotel on your mobile phone and the search results will bring up options that let you call directly.  Google new feature doesn’t support all restaurants, but it’s a start. The feature works on all mobile operating systems as it is part of Google’s web search and is not an independent app.

As of now, the company’s supported include Seamless, Grubhub, Eat24, Delivery.com, BeyondMenu, and MyPizza.com. Google hopes to add more restaurants soon. The feature also auto-corrects and makes sure you order from the restaurant that is the closest location near you.

If you click the order button, you’ll get a popup with the menu card from that restaurant. This is not the only change that has been made to the basic search engine. There is also a built in knowledge graph, a calculator, a unit conversion tool and you can even ask Google to let it snow or do a barrel roll.

The online transaction is likely to be very safe as Google has some of the best security tools in the industry. It remains to be seen how the feature will work in markets outside the United States and whether local business models like cash on delivery or mobile payments will be implemented.
