Google Rolls Out March Pixel Update: Here's What's Changing

On Tuesday, Google released the March 2025 Pixel Feature Drop, introducing AI-powered enhancements, security upgrades, and new tools aimed at improving the user experience on eligible Pixel devices. Built on the latest Android 15 OS, this update brings smarter Google Assistant capabilities, improved call screening, and upgraded photo editing tools. It also includes enhanced security patches to protect against emerging threats. The rollout is happening in phases and is expected to reach all supported Pixel smartphones in the coming weeks.
The latest Pixel Feature Drop enhances Gemini Live with version 2.0, now powered by the advanced Flash 2.0 model. It supports over 45 languages and can automatically adapt to the spoken language without requiring manual adjustments. This update builds on Gemini’s multimodal capabilities from the previous Feature Drop, allowing users to upload images, files, and YouTube links alongside text prompts for more dynamic interactions. Google has also confirmed that, in the coming days, Gemini Live on eligible Pixel devices with a Gemini Advanced subscription will support live video and screen sharing for even more interactive experiences.
The latest Pixel Feature Drop brings significant upgrades across various apps and features. The Pixel Screenshot app now automatically categorizes screenshots into collections like expense reports and bills for easier organization. Pixel Studio, Google’s AI-powered image generator, can now create images of people from simple text prompts.
Google has also expanded its on-device Gemini Nano-powered scam detection to Google Messages, offering real-time spam identification and warnings beyond just the Phone app. For Pixel Fold users, the update introduces dual-screen camera previews for video recording, multi-camera streaming capabilities, and support for connecting additional cameras.
Additionally, the Recorder app can now transcribe audio recordings from other devices, making it even more versatile. Google has also improved routine support, enhancing digital well-being features for a more seamless experience.
Eligible Devices for the March 2025 Pixel Feature Drop
The March 2025 update is rolling out to the Pixel 6, Pixel 7, Pixel 8, and Pixel 9 series smartphones. However, certain advanced features such as connected cameras, scam detection in Google Messages, and Pixel Studio’s AI image generation are exclusive to the latest Pixel 9 series. The update is being released in phases and will reach all supported devices over the coming weeks.
