BENGALURU: Catching up before it is too late, Google’s workshops are reportedly making a mobile app for live video streaming, an aspect that was rendered main stream by apps like Meerkat, Periscope of Twitter and Facebook Live.  However, Google has declined to comment on the speculation.  Apparently, Google already provides live streaming feature as a part of its You Tube Creative Studio, but is limited to those who own You Tube channels.  If Google really happens to launch the service rumored to be named You Tube Connect, it would already have been more than a year since the entry of Meerkat; which in a way opened up the doors for Live Video Streaming. However, wouldn’t be difficult for Google to gain users base given You Tube is the most popular and biggest video sharing cum hosting site on the planet.

Retrieved from a source close to the matter, VentureBeat reports that YouTube Connect would have much of the same functionalities offered by Periscope and Facebook live. Upon logging in with a Google or YouTube account, users will be able to stream through their mobile devices. There are also chat and tagging features along with a “news feed” that features latest clips from friends and subscriptions on YouTube. Videos can be viewed live within the app as well as through the user’s YouTube channel. After broadcasting their videos, users would have the option to save them making it possible for anyone to watch later. The report also states that the app, as of yet provides no option to integrate with Facebook, Twitter or other social networks.

YouTube Connect would be the latest offering in the line of YouTube products, one that could bridge the core service with YouTube Capture that allows you to record and edit footage right on the mobile device and YouTube Gaming.

Live media is where video sharing is poised to expand, as a matter of fact one of the major functionality that social networks like Facebook and Twitter imparts is ’live feeding’. YouTube on the other hand has witnessed services like Snapchat boast increasing number of video viewership. Live streaming is thus a viable option YouTube’s disposal to spike interest among its user base. However, Facebook’s failed attempt to counter Snapchat with its Slingshot app and Google Plus’s rather Sisyphean take on Facebook are examples of how mimicking technologies can go awry. Through another perspective though, YouTube connect can be regarded as a supplement to YouTube. Launch of YouTube Connect, if it really is underway, can be assumed to happen prior to Google’s I/O developer conference in May.  Google has always surprised us with its methodologies of product launch. We can expect the same for YouTube connect.
