Google ends Bard era, welcomes Gemini AI: Sundar Pichai
Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google and Alphabet, unveiled the next phase of the company's AI development, announcing the rebranding of Bard as Gemini. The platform is now accessible in 40 languages on the web and will soon be available through a new Gemini app on Android and the Google app on iOS. Pichai explained that the enhanced version, known as Gemini Advanced, offers superior capabilities in reasoning, following instructions, coding, and creative collaboration. Interested users can access Gemini Advanced by subscribing to the newly introduced Google One AI Premium plan, according to Pichai's statement.
The advanced AI model, 'Gemini Ultra,' will be a premium offering accessible through a new $20 Google One tier, featuring a two-month free trial. This tier includes 2TB of storage and provides access to Gemini within Google Workspace applications like Docs, Slides, Sheets, and Meet. Sundar Pichai emphasized the growing significance of AI in rapidly expanding sectors such as Cloud and Workspace services, as well as the popular subscription service Google One, which is on the verge of reaching 100 million subscribers. Gemini's evolution extends beyond its models, with the Ultra 1.0 model being the first to surpass human experts in Massive Multitask Language Understanding (MMLU). This involves testing knowledge and problem-solving abilities across 57 subjects, including math, physics, history, law, medicine, and ethics.
Sundar Pichai revealed that Gemini models will integrate into everyday products used by individuals and businesses, including Workspace and Google Cloud. The feature known as 'Duet AI' will be rebranded as Gemini for Workspace. Subscribers of the Google One AI Premium plan will soon have access to Gemini in popular applications such as Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet. Additionally, for Google Cloud customers, the transformation of Duet AI into Gemini is expected in the coming weeks, as stated by the company.
