Google Army: The Next Generation Of Robots
BENGALURU: Google is constantly buying robotic companies these few months. This is exciting as well as terrifying. What is Google up to? So far, Google has acquired 8 robotic companies and most of them originated from DARPA.
Google’s robotic division has been winning robotic competition and the acquired companies are performing well in the market. Google has given them freedom to work on their preexisting projects without strings attached. We look at 8 robotic companies, which Google recently acquired.
# Schaft Inc
Schaft Inc team got its start at Tokyo University, where they were working on a robot to help in case of emergency like the Fukushima nuclear disaster. There robot could walk on uneven terrain, climbing ladders, clearing debris, and connecting hoses.
This team won the DARPA’s Robotics Challenge Trial and was acquired by Google back in December 2013. They made a 5-foot, 5-inch, 209-pound bipedal robot. Schaft Inc got its initial funding from DARPA but now that Google is funding it, there can be no limitations.
