Google Aims to Bestow Free Wi-Fi at Malls and Cafes in India

BENGALURU: Google recently launched the Google Station in India, a service that aims to offer free Wi-Fi in public places across the country.  Under the Google station services, the company aims to establish free Wi-Fi hot spots at public places like malls, cafes, and schools as well.

Google claims to offer fast and secure Wi-Fi to millions of people across India with the new initiative. The company also offers a partner program where anyone who wants to be a part of this drive to bring broader Internet access to the masses can sign up and access their toolkit of services for enabling deployment.

In association with RailTel, Google currently offers free Wi-Fi access at 52 railway stations across India and is in plans to scale it up to 100 stations by early 2017. The plan focuses on taking the service to a total of 400 train stations in India. According to the reports, around 3.5 million users presently are using the Google free Wi-Fi services.

The company also announced that its AI-powered Google Assistant is learning Hindi to replay in the near future. The assistant which powers the 'smart replies' feature in Google Allo will be made available in Hindi soon. This means that the automated 'smart replies' that Allo suggests will be available in Hindi too. Google also announced that India was the first country to get its new messaging app Allo.
