Google Acquires Cameyo to Enhance Virtual Desktop Infrastructure on ChromeOS
Google has acquired Cameyo, a company specializing in virtualization tools for running Windows applications on ChromeOS devices, for an undisclosed sum. This acquisition underscores Google's commitment to virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and follows their partnership with Cameyo last year, which aimed to create a seamless virtual application delivery experience integrated with ChromeOS.
By integrating Cameyo's technology, Google aims to provide users with secure, easy, and familiar access to data and files within virtual applications. "By bringing the Cameyo team's expertise in-house, we are doubling down on our commitment to delivering a streamlined experience for virtualized applications", said Naveen Viswanatha, Head of Product Management, ChromeOS
ChromeOS has consistently focused on delivering an optimal experience for virtual applications, and this acquisition is set to enhance user access to critical legacy applications without the need for complex installations or updates. According to Google, this integration will help businesses accelerate their adoption of web-based technologies.
The integration of Cameyo's virtual application delivery (VAD) technology with ChromeOS ensures that virtualized applications can be easily deployed and accessed across organizations, regardless of the device or location. Both ChromeOS and Cameyo emphasize zero trust security, providing robust protection of data and systems from vulnerabilities.
"By combining the power of ChromeOS with Cameyo's innovative VAD technology, we are empowering businesses to modernize their IT infrastructure while preserving their investments in existing software", Viswanatha added. This acquisition represents a significant step forward in Google's efforts to modernize IT infrastructure and enhance virtual application delivery on ChromeOS.
