Facebook Introduces 'Donate' Button for Contributions to Nepal Quake Survivors


BENGALURU: The death toll after Nepal’s catastrophic earthquake is rising higher than it is thought to be. Nepal’s Prime Minister estimates that the death toll could hit 10, 000. The survivors’ despair has now turned to anger at the government’s slow response to humanitarian crisis. To help those thousands of people who are left homeless, Facebook decided to collect donations for the victims who are struggling to cope up with the devastation.

ET reports that Facebook rolled out a donate button to facilitate people who are willing to make contributions. Along these lines Facebook team rolled out a donate button on 28th April to allow people make contributions. Facebook said all the users will see a message at the top of their News Feed which says ‘donate’ to International Medical Corps, which has been an operating relief units in the region.

Facebook and other social networking sites have come of great help during the time of crisis off late. And ‘donate’ button is probably the fastest way to reach maximum number of people. Facebook team also assures that, "100 percent  of your donation will go to International Medical Corps and their work in response to the Nepal earthquake."

Besides, Facebook had also activated its 'Safety Check', a system which allows people in the disaster zone to notify friends and family if they are safe.
