Ericsson and the Department of Telecom (DoT) have joined forces to provide access to Ericsson Educate - 21st Century Technologies Programme, the company's online learning platform, to 100 institutes equipped with 5G Labs. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between A Robert J Ravi, CEO of Telecom Centres of Excellence, India (TCOE), Dy. Director General of DoT, and Nitin Bansal, MD of Ericsson India.
The DoT has established 100 5G Use Case labs in institutes across India to enhance competencies and involvement in 5G technologies for students and startups. Ericsson plans to open its Ericsson Educate platform to 10,000 students from these institutes, offering access to learning materials on key technologies, including Automation, Telecommunications, AI, IoT, 5G, and Machine Learning.
The collaboration aims to provide students and lecturers with quality digital learning resources based on Ericsson's extensive 145-year experience in telecommunications and ICT. The Ericsson Educate portal's content will be provided free of charge to students.
Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Hon’ble Minister for Communications, Electronics & Information Technology and Railways, Government of India, expresses confidence that the 5G Labs in institutes will contribute to creating new 5G use cases for the country. The partnership with Ericsson is seen as crucial in building competencies in emerging technologies and preparing students to be 5G-ready for the Digital India vision.
Nitin Bansal, MD of Ericsson India, sees the collaboration as a significant step toward developing a 5G-ready workforce in India that can support the government's 'Digital India' vision. Providing access to 5G-related courses will empower students to develop use cases addressing local needs, enhancing productivity, and accelerating digitalization efforts. The collaboration is expected to benefit up to 10,000 individuals.
