Ecobee Switch+ : A voice enabled light switch

The home tech company, Ecobee has invented a 21st-century smart switch that enables voice assistance. The new Ecobee Switch+ features Amazon Alexa, in a desire of bringing the AI into the home products in a more smart way. Earlier, Ecobee had made other products in the thermostats line like Ecobee 3 and Ecobee 4, with Amazon’s Alexa built-in feature.

Ecobee is the first company to introduce Amazon’s Alexa in a smart switch. Along with Alexa integration, Switch+ supports far-field voice technology. Switch+ voice control work not only with Amazon’s Alexa but with Apple Homekit, Google Assistant, Smart Things, and IFTTT.

Ecobee Switch+ is more than any other mundane switch. You can turn on or off the light from anywhere with the help of an Ecobee thermostat app, it can also play the music for you, or tell you about today’s weather. Its motion sensors detect the person present in the home and when they go out, it turns out the light to save power.

After software upgradation, the Ecobee Switch+ will be able to work with Ecobee smart thermostats to regulate the room temperature.

The Ecobee Switch+ is priced at 99$ in the US and people can easily set-up the switches on their own in 45 mins.

Stuart Lombard, Ecobee’s President, and CEO Stuart Lombard said: “Voice is something that comes naturally to people, so it creates these really incredible, personal experiences that help make life a little easier. Our research finds voice-based services are actually outpacing all other ecosystems at a rate of three to one. With ecobee4 and now Ecobee Switch+, voice literally weaves into the very fabric of your home, taking us one step closer to a whole home voice reality, which is proving to be the future of the smart home.”
