DICV Unveils Mechatronics Lab to Revolutionize Vehicle Innovation
Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has inaugurated a cutting-edge mechatronics lab at its Oragadam manufacturing facility, aiming to transform its product development and innovation processes. The new lab is designed to significantly accelerate the development of new software architectures and enhance vehicle functionality.
The advanced lab is set to reduce testing and verification time by 70-80%, leading to substantial cost savings and improved validation of software features. It also allows for the verification of new technologies before their implementation in commercial vehicles.
Pradeep Kumar Thimmaiyan, President of Product Engineering & Chief Technology Officer at DICV, highlighted, "Our Mechatronics Lab marks a transformative phase in our R&D efforts. It is not only pivotal for validation but also serves as a hub for innovation, enhancing our global positioning".
The lab includes a flashing station for pre-production verification of electronic control units (ECUs) to ensure hardware-software compatibility. Its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) setup enables the replication of on-road data for software modifications, while the Driver State Monitoring (DSM) environment allows safe testing without risky in-vehicle trials.
Dilip Shrivastava, Head of Mechatronics and Software Technology, noted, "Our lab can verify around 300 features and over a thousand signals within 10 days, and identify 600 fault codes in developing products within weeks, significantly cutting down developmental costs".
