Countries That Adopted Net Neutrality Law, India Soon To Join

The nationwide deliberation on net neutrality prompted by the same has placed it in the spotlight, thereby making it a part of social media trends and public talks, reports Indiatoday.
In hopes of protecting the central principle of the alternative means the internet, netizens has sent over a million distressing emails to TRAI disapproving its recommendations. The end result suggests that TRAI alongside the Government of India are probing to put together a law to determine net neutrality.
With only a handful of countries that have adopted net neutrality, India looks forward in expectancy of a public law on net neutrality. Here we look into the five countries that have already adopted net neutrality:
# Chile: Chile was the first country to implement net neutrality. The provision promoting advocate net neutrality was incorporated in General Telecommunications Law on January 13, 2010. Prominent companies ‘zero-rating admission to services was let down in 2014 in the country
#Netherlands: Netherland brought the European side in the list when it adopted net neutrality law following Chili in second. The law was passed in 2012, which led to ban of telecom operators to increase charges for select services or block select services.
#Brazil: Brazil joined the net neutrality league in 2014, banning operators from charging different rates for services and giving diverse bandwidths to select services. Interestingly, the Brazil legislation holds companies liable for storing its citizen’s data, along with the location of data storage that is not withheld. Therefore it makes U.S. companies like Google and Facebook subject to the net neutrality law.
#United States of America: The newest member in the list is the USA. The U.S. Federal Communications Commission was led to adopt the net neutrality law, due to the outcome of the public protest over the misuse of dominance in the oligopoly of Verizon and Comcast in telecom market. The country had take up the net neutrality law in February 2015 where it then passed specific details of the rules in March and April.
