- The 13.5-acre data center will increase AI-driven data processing, with foreign firms likely to invest, generating employment and economic development.
- Naya Raipur is to be named a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), giving companies tax reliefs and stimulating technological innovation in AI, cloud computing, and machine learning.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai recently laid the foundation stone of India's first Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based Data Center Park in Naya Raipur, a milestone in the country's development of digital infrastructure. Covering 13.5 acres of land in Sector-22 of Naya Raipur, this cutting-edge facility is set to place India at the leading edge of AI-powered data processing and cloud computing.
The project is being progressed under the direction of CM Vishnu Deo Sai and Finance Minister OP Choudhary. The Naya Raipur Development Authority has already floated tenders for its construction, and 14 acres of land have been identified for the project. In its first phase, the data center will install 5 megawatts of Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), and in later phases, it plans to expand. The centre is likely to be operational within two years.
The project has the potential to make Naya Raipur a world hub for AI data processing. The construction of the data centre is expected to draw prominent international players dealing in AI and cloud services, thus developing a vibrant ecosystem providing employment opportunities to AI-trained youth and contributing to the state's economy through foreign exchange trade.
Moreover, the government of Chhattisgarh intends to declare Naya Raipur as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ). This designation will grant businesses in the zone numerous tax benefits, such as exemptions from customs and excise taxes, income tax, and other charges, thus creating a favorable environment for investment and export-oriented activities.
The AI Data Center Park is also likely to strengthen the state's digital infrastructure, facilitating progress in areas like artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, and cloud computing. By enabling the development of these technologies, the project fits into India's larger agenda of strengthening technological capabilities and lowering dependence on foreign data processing services.
