Beta Version of Cortana Now Available On Android

BANGALORE: Android users at most of the countries can now use Microsoft’s virtual assistant Cortana in their devices. As the public beta version is made available earlier this week, reports ComputerWorld.

Those who are looking for beta version of Cortana, they can get their hands on the app by signing up for the test and install the app from the Google Play Store. The users can perform their voice search on Bing, set reminders and send text messages.

The app locks on to the user preferences that are set up on any Windows 10 devices, so the users get to access information like news stories personalized to their interests, alongside reminders and flight information.

Nevertheless, Android version of Cortana will not sport all the features that are available in the Windows version, such as opening apps and responding to "Hey Cortana." Microsoft didn’t make it clear that all features will be made available on Android version of Cortana or not.

It is one of the Microsoft’s strategies to provide services to multiple platforms and spread their reach. Now the Microsoft has made Cortana more portable hence it can be found on Windows PCs and tablets.

Another bright-side of the app for the company is that, when user relies upon Bing for their searches, Microsoft gains the search share against Google.

Later this year, Microsoft will launch Cortana for iPhone users but it the success rate of the app in Apple devices is minimal when compared to Android and Windows users. However, Apple doesn’t allow third party apps to replace Siri’s functionality when their users press holds the iPhone home button but the similar functionality is expected in the Cortana on Android.
