Apple Taking On Google With Its Own Search Engine?
BENGALURU: The recent job posting for Engineering Project Manager - Apple Search, has started creating rumors. It is speculated that Apple is entering the Search Engine space. After having a rough history with Search Engine giant, Google, these assumptions may become true. Google copied few features of iOS and thus they have a rivalry, reports Cult of Mac.
Gene Munster, an analyst for Piper Jaffray, has been claiming since 2010 that there is a 70 percent chance that Apple would enter search engine space. He was also the same person who predicted that Apple would make something, which we call as Apple TV.
In 2012, Apple hired search expert William Stasior, an employee of Amazon and Alta Vista. In 2014, Jan Moesen discovered a Web Crawler Bot originating from Apple’s servers. Apple may be trying to create its place in the Search Engine space as its agreement with Google for its Safari web browser expires this year.
Apple, already has Siri, which is an advance voice based search engine, for creating its search engine. More subtle changes have come through Siri, which taps services like Bing, Yahoo and Wikipedia for information, rather than Google. These small changes have helped marginalize Google's hold on iOS.
Mozilla removed Google as the default search provider for its browser just a few months ago, and it's already led to Google's market share dropping sharply. Looking at how many people use iOS, it can be considered that Apple may be self-sufficient in the Search Engine space and may not require the assistance of both Google and Microsoft.
