Android Takes Top Spot in Ad Revenue; Topples iOS For the First Time
BENGALURU: It is now official Android overtakes iOS in mobile ad revenue on a slightly higher scale. Opera Mediaworks reports that the year 2015, saw Android get the top spot in terms of mobile ad impressions. iOS has taken over Android traditionally but not this time.
Opera Mediaworks on its Q1 2015 report page said, "For the first time since we started The State of Mobile Advertising report in 2012, Android is leading revenue generation across our platform, albeit by only a fraction of a percentage point."
NDTV Gadgets reports that Android had 65.17 percent of global share for mobile ads traffic as against the share of iOS which had 22.34 percent share. Also in case of ad revenue share Android which is at 45.77percent, had taken over iOS which earned 45.44percent with a slight margin. Others like Blackberry, Symbian and Windows share the rest of the ad revenues.
In spite of Android’s higher ad revenue, iOS continues to lead in rich media ads. iOS registered 56.57 percent of the video ad impressions and 62.69 percent of the video ad revenue generated in the period, while Android registered 42.84 percent of the video ad impressions, and 36.23 percent of the video ad revenue generated. Besides this the video ad completion rate for iOS was also significantly higher than Android, with 87.2 percent compared 76.7 percent.
