Adani Electricity has revealed to the media its adoption of a distinctive high-precision GPS technology for the digitization of its field equipment. This pioneering strategy aims to enhance the management of underground cable networks, resulting in expedited operations, reduced expenses, and improved service for Mumbai's 31.5 lakh electricity consumers. Adani Electricity has introduced a novel solution to simplify the mapping of underground cables.
Previously, manual procedures were susceptible to inaccuracies and inefficiencies, frequently requiring weeks for completion. However, with the implementation of advanced GPS technology, cable positions can now be precisely identified with an unprecedented accuracy of under 4 centimeters. A senior official stated that this advancement eradicates guesswork and inaccuracies. The updated system empowers engineers to instantly access, assess, and endorse digitized information via an intuitive web platform and mobile application. This streamlined process guarantees effectiveness and immediate data accessibility.
This cutting-edge technology brings numerous advantages such as digitization of underground assets completed in just one day, compared to the previous 7-10 days, significantly improving operational efficiency. " The cable locations are mapped with centimetre-level precision, minimizing errors and rework. We can get precise data to ensure optimal use of materials, eliminating discrepancies. This innovative approach leads to substantial cost reductions, with the decrease in Operations & Maintenance costs for digitizing field assets", an official said, adding, "Accurate cable mapping minimizes unnecessary excavations, leading to fewer road closures and smoother commutes for Mumbai residents".
According to a senior spokesperson, the company plans to utilize this technology to create a comprehensive digital map of their entire network. "This will facilitate better planning, maintenance, and response to disruptions. Additionally, real-time insights can be gained through location data, which can be used to optimize resource allocation and enhance customer service. The adoption of high-accuracy GPS technology by Adani Electricity has set a new benchmark for the Indian power sector", he added.
