Udupi, The New Favorite Spot for iOS and Android App Developers
BANGALORE: The South Indian coastal town Udupi that is famous for its quick service restaurants and is also known to be the dwelling of the famous Lord Krishna temple has been hosting a vast aggregation of iOS and Android mobile app developers. Over a few hundreds of them reside in the Udupi-Manipal-Mangaluru have been obsessing on codes and caffeine. , Codecraft, Chipsy, Robosoft and Wristcode have been extensively recruiting code jocks for their customers worldwide, reports ET.
"We don't just produce chefs, but the best virtual chefs too, " humored Rohith Bhat, who is the founder of Udupi-headquartered Robosoft Technologies which has created more than 1,400 apps across games & entertainment and enterprise mobility.
"We have at least 20 engineering colleges around Udupi-Mangaluru, all within 60 km from our office. It's a great hunting ground for talent," said Bhat. With cheaper office rentals and a considerable growing local economy alongside engineering colleges like NIT Surathkal, Manipal Institute of Technology, Nitte and Moodlakatte Institute of Technology have given birth to a colossal number of app companies around the coastal town. The company Robosoft has cemented a solid association with Apple, this includes embedding an Indian language interface for Apple Mac in Gujarati, Gurmukhi and Devanagari for producing 5 out of 200 apps that made its appearance in the appstore back in 2008. Presently has managed to gain prominent customers from Disney, Warner Bros Pictures and Heineken.
Sandeep Bhaktha, Former Mphasis employee, who founded Chipsy in 2012 firmly, believes that one should only apply for the job if one is willing to work in Udupi. "We do not make robots here. There is no pressure on employees. It's a good work-life balance unlike someone in Bengaluru who takes nearly two hours to travel to work." Bhaktha said.
