BANGALORE: In 2011, the Google Science Fair awards were open to 13-18-year-old students for the first time across the globe. It is an online science and technology competition sponsored by Google, National Geographic, Lego, Virgin Galactic and Scientific American.

Just recently, Cambridge International Examination awards were won by 31 Mumbai students, and it seems our little masters are keeping up the consistent spirit and determination.

India’s Garimella and Dilbagi won these awards in the under-13 category and Voter's Choice Award respectively.

Arsh Dilbagi, a 16 year 12th standard at Dayanand Anglo Vedic Public School from Panipat, won the award for his project 'Talk: An Innovative AAC Device For People With Developmental Disabilities'.

The Voter's Choice Award is given for project that the public judge has the ability to make the significant impact. This is awarded to those who secure the highest public vote.  

Dilbagi's invention helps people suffering from developmental disabilities such as locked-in syndrome (LIS), a condition in which a patient loses mobility due to complete paralysis of almost all voluntary muscles in the body except for the eyes. It also helps those having Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

According to the estimates, 1.4 per cent of the world's population suffers from disorders like ALS and LIS.
