BENGALURU: Facebook has launched its new Smartphone app for countries with poor 2G connectivity. The new app is termed as “Facebook Lite” and is developed by Facebook for countries like India and Philippines, reports Firstpost.

Facebook Lite is available in Asia and will soon be available in Latin America, Africa, as well as Europe. It uses less data for functioning while it has all the standard features like News Feed, status updates, notifications and photos except Video and location services.

This step aims at increasing the presence of company in emerging markets like Africa, where 3G as well as 4G networks are not prominent. As per the statistics, Facebook has over 112 million users in India alone and Facebook Lite will enable the company to increase the user base even more.
