Nokia Denies Plans Of Manufacturing Smartphones


BANGALORE: Nokia’s plans of manufacturing smart phones reported to the Chinese media have been denied by the company in its website.

 "Nokia notes recent news reports claiming the company communicated an intention to manufacture consumer handsets out of a R&D facility in China. These reports are false," Nokia posted on its own website.

 "Nokia reiterates it currently has no plans to manufacture or sell consumer handsets,” was added.

The Finnish multi-national expressed wishes to come back to the cell phones business after brand licensing.

Recently, Nokia is presumed to be working on a secret project that will end up with the company announcing a new smartphone next year. The company will uncover this brand new device and then license its design by renaming, into another company according to report.

However, the company is in deal with Microsoft has affirmed not to enter  the cell phone industry by 2016.

In an interview conducted by Reuters in November 2014, Sebastian Nystrom, the head of products at Nokia's Technologies unit said,” "It would be crazy not to look at that opportunity. We will definitely look at it.”

Nokia, this month, also announced a takeover on France’s Alcatel-Lucent with the aim to improve its mainstay network equipment business and also expressed intentions of wiping off its map business which is reported to draw interest from car makers, taxi service providers like Uber and Facebook.

The once leader in the cell phone business failed to keep pace in business with Samsung and Apple. Hence, its wild card return is much anticipated by customers.
