Net Neutrality Violation Against Freedom Of Speech: Nasscom


NEW DELHI: The National Association of Software and Services Companies on Wednesday said the government should take the lead in defining net neutrality and the way forward is to create a synergy between over-the-top players and telecom companies.

"Since the regulatory framework is all-embracing, net neutrality principles need to be very clearly articulated by the government, and adopted by the regulator in a harmonious manner. It will not be useful if different regulators adopt different views of net neutrality," said Nasscom President R Chandrashekhar. Nasscom will soon share its responses on the consultative paper, 'Regulatory Framework for Over-the-Top Services', released by the telecom regulatory authority of India in late March.

Over-the-top players are operators like Facebook, Twitter and Skype that use telecom network to provide their services. The industry body said advent of the Internet, proliferation of mobile telephony, adoption of social media, big data and analytics, cloud, Internet of things and so on, combined with the growth of startups and innovation ecosystem and Digital India, has created the perfect confluence for breakthrough economic development and transformation in India.
