Microsoft Brings the VR Technology to Windows 10 with a New Range of Headsets

BENGALURU: With the popularity of virtual reality buzzing around, Microsoft astounds tech geeks at the Windows 10 and Surface event held in New York. Introducing a Creator’s Edition update for Windows 10 named as ‘Redstone’, the company also revealed a new range of Windows VR headsets. The new headsets are expected to be available alongside the latest update by the first half of 2017.

Surprising part about the headsets is that they are integrated with an inside out six degrees of freedom sensors and will operate on the updated version of Windows 10; enabling users to have a unique VR experience. Apart from its innovative capability, the headsets will be available at just $299––a cheaper and better option than most VR headsets available in the market. Microsoft will release the new line of headsets working along with technology partners such as ASUS, Acer, Dell, HP and Lenovo.

The new VR headsets will also work with HoloTour, a software that comes with the HoloLens headset. HoloTour, with the support of HoloLens, stages a virtual environment for users, which includes places and countries across the globe. Furthermore, users have the option of creating their own space from within the virtual world. An example was demonstrated at the Windows 10 event showing a representative having a dedicated screen for sports, and some of his most used apps on a different screen.

"You see the world and in the world you see virtual objects and holograms," says Satya Nadella, to the Wall Street Journal a day before the event.
