Improved Data sharing Across the Entire Product Development Workflow Improves Time to Market for Electronic Devices- Keysight survey

Keysight 2019 Electronic Product Design report, released by the leading technology company - Keysight Technologies, reveals that data sharing enabled by an integrated product development solution would significantly improve time-to-market across the entire product development workflow. The report is based on a survey of 304 engineers, managers and executives who design, validate and test electronic devices, and focuses on the challenges identified by respondents across the entire product design workflow.

“The survey shows that there is a tremendous opportunity to reduce the time-to-market across each phase of the electronic device product development lifecycle. Nearly every company is trying to leverage and compare design simulation data to test results. The correlation issue is due to, in part, the numerous tools used in the development lifecycle. These tools are not integrated and require hours of coding each week to share data,” says Todd Cutler, Vice President & General Manager - Design & Test Software Organization, Keysight.

As per the report, data correlation and software integration are identified as the most imperative challenges faced by design & test engineers, and also 9 out of 10 companies take months to correlate test result data. As companies are improving the design with longer battery life, smaller components and higher levels of integration, test engineering requirements are growing exponentially.

With the amount of data collected growing, improved data sharing would ease the time-to market, and hence, the companies are looking for new data sharing methods between design and test team. Also with the new innovations in electronic design software, test engineers struggle to configure the required validation tests and manage resulting data. This significantly slows time-to-market for electronic products. The survey reveals that 91 percent of the respondents spend upto six months correlating simulation data to test results, which is a crucial step in ensuring performance and reliability. Also, 93 percent of the survey respondents want to accelerate time-to-market with an integrated product development solution that enables data sharing. An integrated product development system enabled with cloud scale processing with a run-anywhere software architecture will help remove the time-to-market barriers for design and test engineers equally.
