Facebook Messenger Introduces Video Calling To Take On Skype, Hangouts and FaceTime

BANGALORE: Facebook has introduced the video calling on messenger app as the company is taking steps to transform the mobile messaging service in to a full featured platform, reports NDTV.

By improving the messaging service, Facebook is trying to curb in users similar to the 1.4 billion user network on its website. Earlier this year the messenger was incorporated with the voice and video calling between computers.

At the Facebook F8 conference in March, CEO Mark Zuckerburg said that Facebook would introduce countless features within the messenger. With the introduction of video calling there are other features like users can now send money to their friends from within the app. Also it created a platform for the developers out there to create apps that can function with the messenger.

Adding video calling feature might boost the ‘messenger as full featured platform’ mission. With this move Facebook is likely to have a stronghold over the competition with Google’s Hangout, Microsoft’s Skype and Apple’s FaceTime.

The video calling is made available for the iOS and Android platforms in Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, France, Greece, Ireland, Laos, Lithuania, Mexico, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, the United Kingdom, the United States and Uruguay. Facebook has said that it will add other regions in the next few months.
