Discom To Set Up Smart Grid Network For Checking Tampering


NEW DELHI: In a bid to make its infrastructure robust, a major discom has undertaken a project to set up a smart grid network in the national capital which it said will help check tampering and take meter reading accurately. 

The project, involving radio frequency (RF) canopy technology where radio waves are used as a form of communication, will be executed by Tata Power (TPDDL) with the assistance of Swiss company Landis+Gyr.

"In the first year of the project, we are going to deploy RF canopy network for five lakh endpoints throughout TPDDL service area and set up servers and communication infrastructure," TPDDL CEO Praveer Sinha said. 

The company, that has its consumer base in North and North-West Delhi, said the project will help it to provide customers accurate information on their energy consumption patterns and improve overall reliability by reducing outage time.
