Google acquired AndroidArrival of Google

Larry Page was one of the few people who actually could see potential in Rubin’s Android when the idea appeared vague to others.

A meeting was organized by Page where Sears came along with Rubin in January, 2005. Google’s co-founder, Sergey Brin, a Google Ventures advisor, Georges Harik was also part of the meeting. The meetings were all praises about Rubin and his work and seemed like more of problem solving session on how Rubin could have made his Sidekick better and Google looked interested in Android. The meeting ended with a question – what was the purpose of the meeting? And, was Google a potential competitor for Android?

45 days later another meeting was called where Google came out clear with its intentions of buying Android. The team Android agreed to the proposal at $50 million and shifted to Google plex in July, 2005.
