Coleco, an American leather company began mass producing the dolls under the name Cabbage Patch Kids. The dolls quickly became one of the biggest trends of the time serving as a popular gift during the holidays and the demand was so high that people actually fought over them during the Christmas holidays.

With thousands in demand and only a few in stock, there were multiple cases of people trampling, hitting and using handheld weapons in order to get themselves a Cabbage Patch Kid.

First launched by the Topps Company in 1985 the Garbage Pail Kids are another classic collection that’s still active even after thirty years later. Apparently, the Garbage Pail Kids were actually created to make fun of the Cabbage Patch Kids, which got the company sued by Coleco for copyright infringement.

At the time of its popularity the Garbage Pail Kids franchise had its own movie as well as a 13-episode TV series that never aired in the US due to criticism.
