Youtube To Offer Subscription-Based Video-On-Demand

BANGALORE: YouTube is expected to offer subscription-based video-on-demand (SVOD) service for its viewers. According to a content creation studio, the video-sharing website is “exploring the prospect of launching its own subscription VOD service.”

With its global success over the years, the online video service now appears to be raising the bars by releasing a subscription-based video youtubeon-demand service. It is a possibility that they might include its YouTube stars to develop videos under the YouTube Originals banner, thereby making its content ad-free, reports TNW

Reports state that the VOD is modeled on the YouTube Music Key which provides limitless, ad-free access to music videos. Alongside it supplies 30 million tracks on Google Play Music for $7.99 per month.

An executive at a YouTube content creation partner cited that the successful video site approached the board last year in regard to obtaining an SVOD licensing deal.

Competing Services like Vimeo, Vessel and Hulu are trying to step up their game by offering exclusive content and paid ad-free viewing options. The Google-owned video giant is also preparing for the onslaught, with its unrelenting investment in promoting its talent. It is now providing tools for creators such as Content ID copyright system. But even with this measure, content studios are not completely satisfied as don’t feel like they are making easy money from the platform.
