Winding Up 2014: A Boom In SMAC Technologies


BANGALORE: Information technology is transforming the lives of millions in a big way. If you go some 50 years back, nobody would have ever imagined that one cell phone will be able to manage almost everything in life. 

Today, everyone conceives IT as a major tool to do business. And it seems the trending IT will bring about more sophistication in our lives because a new combination of mobile, cloud computing, big data and social networking will lay a stronger impact globally.

According to Gartner estimates, around 1.9 billion mobile phones will be sold by the end of this year, now that’s a massive count! Moreover the further estimation states that the Smartphone share in the overall mobile tally is set to go up from 66 percent to 88 percent in 2018. The cloud spending and the various cloud services rushed to around $100 billion.

Not just social, but a lot of business are excelling with the help of Facebook and WhatsApp. According to the data compiled by a social media agency, “We Are Social” revealed that the year 2014 saw a mighty increase in 1.32 billion on Facebook, 300 million on LinkedIn and 271 million on Twitter.

When it comes to the growth of technology, Indian enterprises are outshining in the sector.  A survey of 169 Indian IT professionals by EMC, which included CIOs, architects, data scientists IT managers and other decision makers, has revealed that 51 percent of the respondents are setting up one or more of the SMAC (Social, Media, (Big Data) Analytics and Cloud computing) technologies to enhance customer experience . What's more intriguing is the fact that as many as 91 percent of the respondents expect these next-generation technologies to give their organizations a competitive advantage.
