Will IoT be a Threat to Human Employment in the Future?

BENGALURU: Internet of Things (IoT) now has evolved to such an extent, that it is hard to think about anything other than automation. By offering flexibility to access real-time data from anywhere around the globe to provide fast and better informed decision, IoT has made an impact in all the fields. Especially in the field of IT, IoT plays a very important role. According to one of the blogs of Business Insider India, it is stated that Indians are going to lose over 69,000 employments by 2021 because of the shares of Indian IT firms' in the market that is rising from associated services.

Many believe that automation technology is stripping off manual process, but the fact is- most of the employees impacted by IoT are going to be inexperienced and blue-collared people. Upcoming technologies like incorporating sensors and chipset into systems would allow them to be observed and managed over the internet. This will result in evacuation of support staffs, admins and maintenance people, letting the product manager and network engineers operate the process.

As per HFS survey and research company, India’s IT service is going to lose over 6.4 lakh of low profiled jobs in upcoming five years because of the automation. However, this does not affect the enterprise much- in fact it enhances the performance, and foresees a rise in the share held in IoT services market.

IoT has evolved from ‘Internet of noThings’ to everything, very soon IoT will offer enterprises direct knowledge about customers’ product usage, where business will be able to market and customize their offerings to variety of needs. The technology will be able to help refine the business predictions; and ensure direct long-term relationship with the customers.
