The 3D Touch Feature In Apple's iOS 10 Plays Well For Their Latest iPhones

BENGALURU: The 3D Touch feature introduced by Apple last year for iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus wasn’t well received among many circles as users found it identical to the long-press that already exists on Android. Since the introduction, Apple and its developers have been striving hard to build useful applications, including games, which would justify their position in the market.

The 3D Touch feature, unlike long press button on Android, doesn’t need users to long press and wait for the pop-up menu to appear. The feature adds swiftness to the function, where users have to just access the hidden menu and press the button just a bit harder, thus setting it apart from long press option on Android. Moreover, the sensitivity of the touch can be adjusted in the settings itself, and there is no accidental activation upon finger press due to presence of pressure sensitivity. Furthermore, users are allowed to Peek (standard press) and then (with a little more pressure) Pop open a message or relevant action, as Apple integrates two levels of 3D Touch.

The initial run for the iOS 10 Developer Beta and iOS 10 Developer Beta 2 on a non-3D Touch device was not very promising and lot of bugs were encountered. But, the same version of the OS seemed to function smoothly on the iPhone 6s, and most of the bugs are expected to be removed before the final release. Apart from the Music app, lock screen and notifications tray, iOS 10 hasn’t changed much compared to its previous version. Other nominal changes include thickening of fonts, alterations in folder animations, and several visual tweaks.

The 3D Touch option seems to pursue the spotlight as it turns out to be resourceful on the iOS 10 Beta. The feature lets users clear all notifications on the lock screen at once by performing a hard press, and enables them to interact with notifications without actually getting into an app. The Control Center has been revamped and all the buttons have been placed neatly. On iPhone 6 tapping on any of the toggles will lead you to the Settings page, while tapping with a little pressure on iPhone 6s opens those options without actually having to leave Control Center. Moreover, there is a separate tab for music, embedded within the Control Center. The Home Screen has been re-oriented, and now pressing on an icon will reveal a widget with details pulled from the app to the users. Moreover, combining the competence of iOS 10 and 3D Touch, users are bestowed with the ability to jump to a notification inside the folder, without actually opening the folder and searching for the app which displays the notifications badge. Another enticing fact about the home screen is that any app can be shared directly from here, using the 3D touch feature.
