Sony to Fix QuadRooter Android Bug in Upcoming Update


BENGALURU: Sony has finally woken up and responded to the QuadRooter flaw that is said to be potentially affecting over 900 million Android smartphones running Qualcomm processors. The Japanese tech giant says that it will try to roll out the fix for the vulnerability "within normal and regular software maintenance." But it has yet not revealed a date or time frame to fix the bug.

Android has Fallen! Yet another set of Android security vulnerabilities has been discovered in Qualcomm chipsets that affect more than 900 Million Android smartphones and tablets worldwide.

Dubbed as "Quadrooter," the bug has been discovered in devices running Android Marshmallow and earlier with Qualcomm chip, which could allow an attacker to gain access to any Qualcomm device.

Sony is yet not clear about the update and said that timings of theroll out of the update could differ based the region and the operator. "Sony takes the security concerns and privacy of customers seriously. We are well aware of the 'Quadrooter' problem and are working to make the security patches available within normal and regular software maintenance, both directly to open-market devices and via our carrier partners, so timings could vary depending on the region and/or operator,” reports Xperia website.

In short, there is a patch in the works and Sony recommends that its usersshould keep upgrading via System Updates and stick to the latest software to stay safe. It was Check Point Software technologies that discovered the bug, which is said to be affecting over 900 million devices running Android.

According to Check Point, users should use the latest Android OS version to avoid any of these susceptibilities.
