Samsung Makes The Cut, Paves Way For 4GB RAM Phones

BENGALURU: Now-a-days, by the time you realize you would have already seen a smartphone which is ready for a release and Korean phone maker every week .'Samsung’ has joined the battle of hardware specification by launching a new chip that supports 4 GB of RAM, as reported by TOI.

The South Korean electronic giant is making 8 Gb low power double data rate 4 mobile DRAM. DRAM, whose full form is dynamic random access memory, is a significant constraint in mobile devices, both regarding components and battery flattening power consumption. More memory is needed as now larger amount of apps and software are taking up space in your smartphone and that the whole reason of this launching a chip with 4 GB RAM.

In a report Samsung states that Input/output data rate is designed to provide upto 3200 Mbps, and the new RAM module is capable of supporting UHD video recording and playback for continuous shooting of high resolution images with over 20 MP.The new Samsung chip is the lowest power memory solution available for large-screen Smartphone’s and tablets because its operating voltage was reduced to 1.1 V from that of LPDDR3 memory chips.

Joo Sun Choi, executive vice president of memory sales and marketing at Samsung Electronics, said, “By initiating production of the 20nm 8Gb LPDDR4, which is even faster than the DRAM for PCs and servers and consumers much less energy, we are contributing to the timely launch of UHD, large screen flagship mobile devices.”

Although it’s a great news, it seems that Samsung’s new RAM setup won’t be available in every smartphone and most likely it will be used for the premium mobiles in the market. The 4K Smartphones launched in 2014 will utilize the upgraded RAM as will the other laptops and tablets.
